English Language Learners [ELLs]

Question: How can teachers utilize the experiences of ELLs in the regular English classroom?

Answer/Quote: “English language learners can be excellent resources for developing multiple perspectives in the ELA classroom. By drawing on their backgrounds and integrating their experiences into the mainstream classroom we can raise awareness of different ways of seeing the world and help all students develop multiple perspectives on a variety of topics. In doing so, we celebrate the gifts all students bring to the table.” P. 114.

Comment: This idea of incorporating the ideas and perspectives of ELLs in a regular classroom setting appears often in the articles I read in my professional English journals. RayS.
